Explore Factors That Lead To Employee Attrition

In this article we want to uncover the factors that lead to employee attrition and explore important factors of attrition like comparing the average monthly income by education and attrition. Now that we have Tableau, and our IBM data set, let’s dive into the data with visualizations !
Which department has the most employee attrition ?
From the Bar Graph, it looks like Research & Development has the most employee attrition, followed by Sales, and then Human Resources, but does this tell the whole story. Research & development has more employees than the other two so let’s see how the departments stack up percentage wise.
Human Resources Attrition percentage = 12/ 63 = 0.19 = 19 %
Research & Development percentage = 133/ 961 = 0.138 = 13.8%
Sales percentage = 92/ 446 = 0.206 = 20.6%
So it looks like the sales department has a higher attrition percentage then the other two departments followed by human resources and then research & Development. So maybe IBM should focus on the Sales department attrition.
At what age are people most likely to leave ?
Looks like ages 29 and 31 both have the highest attrition rate of 18 employees. More interesting though is that the number of attrition seems to go down around the age of 36, we no longer see attrition rates in the double digits. So maybe IBM should look at employees who are under the age of 36 to reduce there employee attrition. Yet I wonder if age has a correlation with an employees monthly salary.
What’s the sum of all of the Monthly Rates by age ?
This is interesting because this graph looks like the one before it. Maybe there is something more with the Monthly Rate and an employees attrition and possibly not just their age.
Does An Employees Attrition Decrease The Longer They Are At The Company?
From the graph above, it seems that the longer the employee is at the company the less likely they are to leave.
Looks like it’s likely for employees to leave the company if they have less than 10 years with the company, are under the age of 37, and are not in the Resource & Development department.
