In this article I want to show you all (the readers) why you should learn the python programming language. Hopefully this article will show you some facts and opinions on the benefits of learning python. What is Python ?

According to python.org, python is an interpreted, object-oriented, high-level programming language with dynamic semantics. Its high-level built in data structures, combined with dynamic typing and dynamic binding, make it very attractive for Rapid Application Development, as well as for use as a scripting or glue language to connect existing components together. Python’s simple, easy to learn syntax emphasizes readability and therefore reduces the cost of program maintenance. Python supports modules and packages, which encourages program modularity and code reuse. The Python interpreter and the extensive standard library are available in source or binary form without charge for all major platforms, and can be freely distributed. — python.org

To sum up the above paragraph in simpler terms, Python is a simple to use programming language with helpful libraries that make it easy for you to create amazing applications quickly and you can create these applications on any major operating system like Windows, iOS, or Linux.

10 Reasons To Learn Python

According to Hackernoon author Javin Paul, their are 10 reasons to learn Python. I will back some of his claims with my personal experience, data and information from other resources such as Elena Ruchko, cleverroad.com & PopularitY of Programming Python.

1. Data Science

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that uses statistics, and other scientific methods to extract knowledge and insight from data. It is considered the sexiest job of the 21st century.

2. Machine Learning

Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that allows a machine to learn from data. It is being used to recommend Netflix movies to users, help people search the internet on Google, recommend YouTube videos for users, tag friends images on Facebook, recommend products on Amazon and so much more.

Python is a great tool for doing some of these amazing tasks with machine learning ! 3. Web Development

With Python you can rapidly and easily create web applications using Python’s framework djanga and Pythons flask library. Programming tasks that would take hours to do in PHP takes only minutes in Python.

4. Simplicity

The simplicity and ease of use of the Python programming language is what makes python so amazing ! Python is easy to install and can be installed on any major operating system. Python has simple syntax compared to Java and C.

5. Huge Community

Indeed, Python has a huge community. I think that you need a good size community with many questions and answers to learn a new programming language fast and well. In these communities, you can ask questions and many times, you will receive an answer or be able to find an answer from someone else who asked a similar question. You can find python communities on stackoverflow.com and on the Python website python.org.

6. Libraries and Frameworks

Python has great options when it comes to selecting libraries. Some of the most popular libraries are numpy, scipy, nltk, keras, scikit-learn, matplotlib, pandas, request, flask, opencv, astropy, SQLAlchemy, scrapy, and the list goes on according to pythontips.com.

These libraries help to make python a robust and easy to use programming language.

7. Automation

You can use Python to automate many tasks, although I also suppose that’s true with many other languages as well, but Python truly makes it fast, easy and simple to write scripts. 8. Job Growth

Python has seen significant growth in popularity from big tech companies & developers , as well as the extensive libraries, and frameworks. Growth is good for when you are just starting your career as a developer and python can help you with that growth.

9. Multipurpose

The R-programming language is a good tool for data analytics, statistics and data science, but it’s not very good for making other applications unlike Python. With Python you can automate tasks using scripts and create web applications as well as make applications for data analytics, statistics and data science like R. As Elena puts it, you can use Python for pretty much anything:

  • Data science
  • Finance and trading
  • System automation and administration
  • Computer graphics
  • Basic game development
  • Security and penetration testing
  • General and application-specific scripting
  • Mapping and geography (GIS software)

10. Salary

Python programmers have a high paying salary with an average base pay of $79,395 USD per year as of May 30, 2020 according to PayScale.com.
